Hopkins, Dr Edward John. A.P.S. (1864), Hon.R.A.M. (1871), Mus.D. (Cantuar, 1882), Mus.D. (Toronto, 1886), F.R.C.O. Chorister in the Chapel Royal, St. James’ Palace, London, under William Hawes, 1826-33; pupil of Thomas Forbes Walmisley. Organist of Mitcham Parish Church, 1834-38; St. Peter’s, Islington, London, 1838-41; St. Luke’s, Berwick Street London, 1841-43; the Temple Church, London, 1843-98. One of the founders of the Royal College of Organists. Professor of organ at the Royal Normal College for the Blind, Norwood, London, . Composed anthems, services, organ pieces, madrigals, songs, part-songs, &c. Brother of John Hopkins and Thomas Hopkins; cousin of Edward Hopkins and Dr John L. Hopkins. b. Westminster, London, England, June 30th, 1818; d. Camden, London, Feb. 4th, 1901.
