Biography of Sir Frederick Arthur Gore Ouseley

Ouseley, Sir Frederick Arthur Gore. B.A. (Oxon, 1846), M.A. (Oxon, 1849), Mus.B. (Oxon, 1850), Mus.D. (Oxon, 1854), Mus.D. (Cantab, 1862), Hon.LL.D. (Cantab, 1883), Hon.LL.D. (Edinburgh, 1885). Studied at Christ Church College, Oxford. Organist at Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford, 1846 (gratuitously). Ordained, 1849; curate of St. Paul’s Knightsbridge, London, 1849-50; founded St. Michael’s College, Tenbury, 1854; professor of music at Oxford University, 1855; precentor at Hereford Cathedral, 1855. Composed oratorios, services, organ pieces, chamber music, part-songs, songs, &c. Wrote about theory, musical form, &c. b. London, England, Aug. 12th, 1825; d. Hereford, Apr. 6th, 1889.
