Silver, DrAlfred Jethro. Mus.D. (Dunelm)., F.R.C.O. Studied at St. George’s School, Windsor, with Sir Walter Parratt. Assistant organist of St. George’s Chapel, Windsor; organist of Clewer Parish Church, 1888; Ealing Parish Church, London, 1889; St. Davids, Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, 1892; Carmarthen Parish Church, 1897; Handsworth Parish Church, Birmingham, England, 1900-. Composed church, piano, and organ music. Music master at Handsworth Grammar School. b. Spital Clewer, Windsor, England, Dec. 20th, 1870; d. Birmingham, Apr. 13th, 1935.
Massenet, Jules Émile Frédéric. Officer of the Legion of Honour. Studied at the Paris Conservatory under Lauent (piano), Reber (harmony), Savard and Ambrose Thomas (composition). Professor of composition at the Paris Conservatory, 1878-96. Composed operas, orchestral suites, overtures, oratorios, &c. b. Montaud, near Saint-Étienne, France, May 12th, 1842; d. Paris, Aug. 13th, 1912.
Tschaikowsky, Peter Ilyich. Studied in St. Petersburg with Kündinger (piano); at the St. Petersburg Conservatory under Zaremba and Anton Rubinstein. Professor of harmony at the Moscow Conservatory, 1866-77. Composed operas, symphonies, ballets, piano music, &c. b. Wotkinsk, Russia, May 7th, 1840; d. St. Petersburg, Nov. 18th, 1893.
