Grieg, Edvard Hagerup. Hon.Mus.D. (Cantab, 1894). Pupil of his mother; studied at the Leipzig Conservatory, under Moscheles (piano), Moritz Hauptmann (counterpoint), Ernst Friedrich Richter (counterpoint), Rietz (composition), Wenzel (piano) and Dr Karl Reinecke (composition), 1858-62; in Copenhagen with Niels Gade and E. Hartmann, 1863. Founded the Musical Union, Christiania, 1866. Composed orchestral suites, piano pieces, songs, &c. b. Bergen, Norway, June 15th, 1843; d. there, Sep. 4th, 1907.
